Post-graduate course in Family Health Nursing
The Post-graduate Course in Family Health Nursing aims to deepen nurses’ knowledge in this specific area. It acknowledges the complexity of the family system, so that nurses are able to conceptualise the family as a unit of care, with focus on both the family as a whole and individual members. Nurses are expected to develop competencies that demonstrate high levels of clinical judgement and decision-making within the scope of the competencies required for the Nurse Specialist in Family Health Nursing, guided by a systemic approach that helps potentiating the strengths and resources of the family system in the different stages of the family life cycle.
Learning outcomes
- To deepen knowledge about nursing theoretical fundamentals enabling the development of critical reasoning about specialized family nursing care;
- To assess data on the family system, focusing both on the family as a whole and individual members;
- To identify nursing diagnoses in the area of family as a core unit, acknowledging its strengths and needs and considering its transition processes;
- To train family assessment and family health nursing intervention strategies, using specific family interview techniques that facilitate the empowerment of family systems.
