Post-graduate course in Stomatherapy
Post-graduate course in Stomatherapy
The Postgraduate Course in Stomatherapy is an advanced training aimed at developing specific skills that allow nurses to assume the responsibility of preparing, accompanying and providing the person with an ostomy (ventilation, feeding or elimination) and his/her relative/caregiver (or parent) with the development of mastery in self-care and adaptation to a safe experience of the person living with a stoma.
Regulation no. 398/2019 of the Portuguese Order of Nurses has regulated an increased competence in this area of stomatherapy, which had been expected for decades, and which now allows us to develop a recognised training programme, ensuring quality, in response to the high professional demands that are placed when facing the needs of people with an ostomy.
This course is accredited by the Portuguese Order of Nurses for professional qualification purposes.
Learning outcomes
- To ensure the management of the specific care to the person with an ostomy and the family/caregiver, in the different intervention contexts;
- To provide nurses with the knowledge and skills to help people with a healthy transition to living with an ostomy.
