Master in Community and Family Health Nursing
The Master’s Degree in Community and Family Health Nursing is part of the ESEP’s post-graduate training policy, within the framework of a strategy aligned with its statutory mission. The course is based on the interconnection between research, teaching and responding to the health needs of the population.
This Master’s Degree has as its reference the Nursing Order Training Plan for specialised training in Community and Family Health Nursing.
The Course, which is also in line with the international and national guidelines concerning the development of family health nursing and the implementation of the family nurse, has a strong orientation towards the development of advanced competencies, predominantly clinical in nature, with a focus on the family as a care unit, throughout the life cycle and at different levels of prevention, with a view to empowering it to face the demands and specificities of its development and to make evident the contribution of nursing care to health gains for families.
The course respects the requirements and principles of analysis of the specialised training in Nursing of the Nursing Order (NO), namely as regards the possibility of later awarding the professional title of Specialist Nurse to those who hold the Master’s Degree in Community and Family Health Nursing. This course will contribute to the training of professionals who constitute critical mass for the development of autonomous and collaborative activities in the area of community health and public health nursing, based on their skills in health planning, epidemiology and biostatistics, and the production and use of the best scientific evidence, among others. It is intended to be relevant for collaboration in the implementation of health policies and in primary health care organization policies. Finally, it is also intended to be relevant to the creation, implementation and evaluation of health projects aimed at health promotion, disease prevention and community care.
Learning outcomes
- To improve knowledge on the theoretical foundation of nursing, which allow the development of critical thinking about specialized nursing care in Family Health Nursing;
- To integrate ethical and deontological principles that allow the development of scientific, technical and human competencies to provide nursing care to the family at the core of care, at the different levels of prevention;
- To provide specialized nursing care that promotes families capacity, focused in family as a whole and in his individual members;
- To develop competencies at management and leadership levels of intervention processes in the field of Family Health Nursing, which allow the articulation and mobilization of th resources necessary to provide care to the frailty;
- To demonstrate the capacity for research, leading to new disciplinary knowledge of innovative strategies that promote decision-making in the process of family assessment and intervention.
